Andrzej Hop – born in Przemysl on the 18 November 1968. He
graduated from a secondary music school at the age of 15, with
such attainments as a honourable mention at the International
Competition for Young Violinists in Lublin in 1982 and 1st Prize
at the All-Polish Violin Competition in Lublin in 1983. Until
1985, he studied with Prof. Zenon Brzewski at the Warsaw School
of Music.
In 1985 he was awarded scholarship for a music training in Interlochen,
USA, which was the first time he was given opportunity to study
in the United States.
In 1986 he started studies at the Poznan School of Music with
Prof. Jadwiga Kaliszewska and Prof. Marcin Baranowski. During
his studies (1986 – 1990) he won such prizes as the 2nd Prize
at the Lodz Chamber Music Competition (as member of a string
quartet lead by Prof. Marcin Baranowski) and honourable mentions
at the Jahnke Violin Competition and Wronski Violin Competition
in Warsaw.
Andrzej Hop has given numerous concerts in Poland and abroad;
he also recorded radio and TV programmes. Since he was 10 years
old, he has participated in international master classes in
Lancut, Zagan, Krakow, and other sites.
In 1990 he graduated with honours from the Poznan School of
Music and was awarded scholarship and invited to continue his
studies in the United States. His teacher was Prof. Roman Totenberg
in Boston. He took part in music competitions and gave concerts
together with his teacher, learnt wide chamber music repertoire
as member of various chamber ensembles, ranging from a duet
to an octet, both as a violin and viola player. The latter with
the Julliard Quartet lead by M. Hillyar.
In the winter of 1991, he performed in Carnegie Hall in New
York and Kennedy Centre in Washington as member of the New York
String Orchestra conducted by Alexander Schneider. In the summer
of 1992, he took part in the International Schleswig-Holstein
Festival, performing numerous chamber and orchestra works under
the baton of L. Maazel, M. Rostropowicz and K. Eschenbach.
Since 1992 he is member and a soloist of the Amadeus Chamber
Orchestra. This orchestra tours Europe, America and Asia, performing
with world famous musicians.
In 1996 Andrzej Hop was awarded honourable mention at the International
H. Wieniawski Competition in Poznan.
